Modest Exercise-Induced Increases in Testosterone Concentration Are Not Associated with Mating Strategy Change in Healthy Young Men

چکیده
Abstract Research has demonstrated that increases in testosterone (T) concentration can affect the expression of behaviours and preferences are typical high mating effort. However, little research considered whether such T strategy more generally this is achievable using a physical intervention. In pilot study, we examined exercise-induced changes covary with, or predict, male strategy. Healthy young men ( N = 94) completed measure short- long-term relationship preference, before after series short cycling sprints. Salivary was measured pre- post-exercise, along with salivary cortisol (C), which known to moderate some behavioural effects T. A significant group-level increase observed, though smaller than anticipated (~ 10%, d 0.27) substantial intragroup variation. No change C emerged. Testosterone did not significantly predict preference from baseline, even inclusion as moderator. The current findings suggest modest have impact on strategies. Pharmaceutical interventions, produce larger consistent increases, may be required observe change.

Testosterone-induced increase in muscle size in healthy young men is associated with muscle fiber hypertrophy.
Administration of replacement doses of testosterone to healthy hypogonadal men and supraphysiological doses to eugonadal men increases muscle size. To determine whether testosterone-induced increase in muscle size is due to muscle fiber hypertrophy, 61 healthy men, 18-35 yr of age, received monthly injections of a long-acting gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist to suppress endogenous ...
متن کاملEndurance training increases exercise-induced prostacyclin release in young, healthy men--relationship with VO2max.
In the present study, we evaluated the effect of 5 weeks of moderate-intensity endurance training on the basal and exercise-induced systemic release of prostacyclin (PGI(2)), as assessed by plasma 6-keto-PGF(1 alpha) concentration. Twelve physically active young men with the following characteristics participated in this study (the mean +/- SD): age, 22.7 +/- 2.0 years; body mass, 76.8 +/- 8.9 ...
متن کاملTestosterone-induced muscle hypertrophy is associated with an increase in satellite cell number in healthy, young men.
Testosterone (T) supplementation in men induces muscle fiber hypertrophy. We hypothesized that T-induced increase in muscle fiber size is associated with a dose-dependent increase in satellite cell number. We quantitated satellite cell and myonuclear number by using direct counting and spatial orientation methods in biopsies of vastus lateralis obtained at baseline and after 20 wk of treatment ...
متن کاملComparison of Acute Hormonal Responses between Resistance, Endurance and Endurance-Resistance Exercise in Healthy Young Men
Introduction: This research was aimed at examining acute responses of hormones such as growth hormone (GH), total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), free fatty acid (FFA) and cortisol to resistance (R), endurance (E) and endurance-resistance (ER) exercise. Methods: The participants of this study were 10 healthy young men. R protocol included bench press, lateral pull down, leg exten...
متن کاملClomiphene Citrate Effectively Increases Testosterone in Obese, Young, Hypogonadal Men.
BACKGROUND Obesity has been associated with low testosterone (T) in adult males and in pubertal boys. Therapy for hypogonadism with exogenous T may lead to testicular atrophy and later infertility. Only a few studies have demonstrated that the Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) clomiphene citrate (CC), an estrogen receptor antagonist, increases T in obese hypogonadal men while prevent...
